My love for flowers and plants could be traced back to my parents. My dad is definitely the first green thumb of the family. When my parents bought a house he was excited to have a garden filled with fruit trees, plants, and flowers. If he wasn't inside the house then most likely he was in the backyard tending to his garden. Seeing my dad take care of his garden gave me an appreciation for nature and life. My mom is the floral designer of the family. She would take flowers and plants from my dad's garden and turn them into beautiful floral arrangements for our home.
My family immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 2001 with nothing more than a few suitcases. I was only 4 years old when we moved but I remember how hard my parents worked in order to afford a better life for us here. My parents are my first inspirations and they're a huge part of who I am today. Their love for nature and flowers effortlessly flowed to me. I eventually inherited my dad's green thumb and now have many indoor plants in my home. While I don't have a backyard yet for a flower garden that's one of my goals in the future!
Moving to Washington in 2023 was the biggest catalyst for my landscape paintings. Before then I mostly painted botanicals. If you've ever been to Washington then you know how beautiful it is here. On a sunny and clear day in Seattle you could see Mt. Rainier standing proudly. There are so many awesome trails, parks, and lakes here that inspiration is never limited. Here's a sneak peek of what my camera roll looks like since moving here!
I feel so blessed to live in a scenic place that constantly inspires my art. It is truly a magical feeling to witness with my own eyes and then capture it on paper.
Modern Meliora translates to the "modern pursuit of better" and I can't imagine a better way to represent that than living a creative life and pursuing beauty in nature.
Until next time, stay colorful.
